If music's your gig, then this summer has a treat for you. Groups such as Dave Matthews Band and Death Cab for Cutie will be coming to local venues in Tampa and Orlando such as Jannus Landing, Hard Rock House of Blues, and the Ford Amphitheater.
With so many options to choose from this summer, some might find it hard to pick one.
Furthermore, if your ears ring for music your choices are just as abundant, and then the question to ask is "who" and "where."
This summer, south Florida is packed with musicians from all genres and of all scales and we have the info on where they will be playing.
Robert Ferdinand, 19, Ybor Campus, was pumped for this summer's music line up.
"I love Dave Matthews Band, they're so groovy and they click so well together…definitely one of my favorite bands by far. Too bad Radiohead won't be coming…they're godly," said Ferdinand.
Big groups such as DMB and Death Cab will be playing at some of the hotter venues such as the Amphitheater and the House of Blues. Death Cab for Cutie makes their stop at the Hard Rock House of Blues at Universal Citywalk in Orlando for the small fee of $30 in advance and $35 at the door.
For those not familiar with the Seattle indie rockers, Death Cab offers immense harmonies, clever lyrics, and catchy riffs to bring it all together.
Unfortunately, Dave Matthews Band has several issues that some fans are upset about.
This summer, Dave Matthews Band is coming later in the year and will be much more expensive.
The band typically sells out the Amphitheater every year around the months of June and July, but this year the fusion jazz group will be arriving mid-August.
If that wasn't enough, in addition to coming right before the start of the fall semester, the band raised prices. Lawn seats, the farthest and cheapest tickets, are over $40 without the cost of parking, tax, or service fees.
Some might find the groovy group's prices to be too much, but to the fans it is all worth the price.
For country fans, twang bands such as Toby Keith, Trace Adkins, and southern rockers Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd will also have their hoedowns at the Amphitheater.
Toby Keith and Trace Adkins will be stopping in Tampa on June 26, although tickets are not on sale yet, they will start at $48 and run all the way up to a whopping $667 a ticket. You won't find any change in price for Skynyrd tickets either, they will be playing at the Amphitheater on June 27, and their prices will be ranging from $35 to the extreme high of $648.
Another Ybor student, Diego Berry, 18, was bummed about how high tickets are this summer.
"In this declining economy it seems ridiculous for bands to charge so much…in fact, they should charge less. I don't really know anyone who can afford to see Dave or anybody big like that, at least I can't see anyone buying [tickets] for them soon," said Berry.
Either way, if the funds are there or not, this summer will be packed with wholesome music for ears to enjoy, and if you can spare some of those silly prices, you're in for a treat. Although no one can promise that Dave's voice won't crack, or Toby's guitar string won't break, the only way to find out is to pay up and listen.
