“Titanfall” Beta review

“Titanfall” was created by a co-creator of the “Call of Duty” franchise, along with some of the game developers. For a triple A title this game was only developed with a few developers in a new gaming company called “Respawn Entertainment”. One can tell that the game developers put the best aspects of first person shooting from experiences working on “Call of Duty”.

The game plays fantastically with amazing next gen graphics. The entire game is multiplayer. The beta only includes the basic game types like team death match, domination, and capture the flag. One of the most interesting aspects of the game is the moments of the pilot the players control. The player’s character in the game is called the “Pilot”. The pilot has a standard setup like in “Call of Duty”, guns, grenades, perks, etc. The pilot’s movement involves a jet pack which lets the player walk, run, and double jump. Going from point A to point B has never been better. Rushing past the enemy takes just a few seconds with the right creative mind.

The whole point of the game is not about the pilot though, it is about the Titans. Titans are giant robots that the pilots can get into at a certain times in the game. The player will have full control over their mech, with counts amounts of ability for the pilot to use. One of the abilities is that the titan can stop the bullets or missiles from the other titan and shoot them back all at once. Playing as a titan certainly makes that pilot have the advantage towards other pilots without titans. When it comes to a 50 foot robot with a full arsenal going against a 6 foot pilot carrying maybe an assault rifle, the outcome is pretty obvious.

Not to say that the pilot can’t take down a titan, the player just has to be smart about it. The pilot is equipped with a weapon to take down a titan, but mainly from a distance. The pilot can also sneak up on a titan, and destroy it from the inside.

The multiplayer is very different from other games. It is very cinematic, and immersive. Playing multiplayer actually feels like it matters, they have it very story driven even if a match only last five to eight minutes. A great feature that they added in their multiplayer is AI players, which are soldiers named grunts that the game is only allowed to control. It makes the game easer to play because the AI players are not that good at the game. That makes the game stand out from “Call of Duty”, because in “Call of Duty” players knows if their good or not which can make the game frustrating, whereas in “Titanfall” everyone can just join the fun.

Matches start by pilots jumping out of an air ship to the multiplayer map, but it ends differently for both sides. Depending on if the player wins or loses in the match, the losing team has to escape to an air ship to transport them off of the match, while the wining team has to destroy the pilots or the transportations ships to stop anyone from leaving from the enemy team.

“Titanfall” comes out March 11, and you do not want to miss this gem of a game. This is the game that starts the year off on triple A titles for next gen consoles.
