Patrons admire custom art pieces at the hip and trendy Nova 535, located on MLK in St. Pete.

After traveling to more than 40 countries, and taking in the culture of the unique places he has visited, Michael Novilla, owner of NOVA 535 was bored with the social gathering spots seen in America and began searching for a creative outlet.

Novilla’s goal was to bring an international art gallery, swanky lounge, and cool event space together under one roof.  Novilla’s vision became reality in 2006 when taking his dog for a hair cut near a downtown St. Petersburg neighborhood.

In what was at the time a doggy day care, Novilla was able to see his dream space.  Nearly three years and $3 million dollars later NOVA 535 was born. “A supernova is how a star system is formed,” said Novilla.

Between the newborn star system, his last name and the street address, 535 Martin Luther King Jr. St. N., NOVA 535 was named.

NOVA 535 is an International Art Gallery by day and event space by night.  In fact, nearly 80 percent of business done at NOVA 535 is for private events including weddings, receptions, bar mitzvahs, corporate events and commercial photo shoots, just to name a few.   NOVA 535 is one of those places that will fill you with wonder and excitement the second you walk in.

The beautiful Brazilian hardwood floors and exposed brick walls gives it a high-end, unique feel.  The art adorning the walls sits on custom pulley systems and changes frequently ranging from eclectic and abstract to cartoons and outer space themes.  The $3 million dollar renovation includes 10 restroom suites, recognized by Cinta Corporation as one of the best restrooms in the entire country.  The rooftop deck offers an ultra-modern touch to the already vivid space.

NOVA 535 can serve more than 300 guests for seated dining and 400 guests for cocktails. The event space is flexible, fun and even offers the ability to fully tent a side courtyard.
Public events include The Big Bang, which is on the first Thursday of each month and is a mix of the Gong Show, American Idol and Whose Line Is It Anyway?

NOVAWEEN is an annual Halloween bash hosted by DJ Fresh and has a “dead Hollywood” theme.  Drinks range from $5 to $12; depending on the event, food can be fully or lightly catered.
