It is 3 o’clock on a mundane Monday afternoon. A phone rings twice and a young, peppy woman answers. She goes by the name of Kaitlan Corsell.

Corsell recently found out her company, “Threes StudiosMultimedia,” has just won its first commercial book trailer competition.

It began nearly three years ago after Corsell met Saulozay Zayas, who is now her boyfriend. Zayas was working as a freelancer out of his garage and Corsell decided she would help him out after seeing how they both wanted to achieve the same goals.

Together, Corsell and Zayas founded ThreeS tudios Multimedia. “The company sort of merged out of nowhere,” Corsell said.

The small company does a little bit of everything; from commercial videos and book trailers, to event photography and graphic design. Long hours are put in to making the videos and graphic designs. The trailer for the story, “Southern Cross: Annuit Coeptis,” took nearly three weeks to complete. Mind you, the final product is only a minute and 39 seconds long.

The book’s publisher, Sekwana Comics, only provided the still image graphics. The rest of the images were made up from scratch, mostly between Corsell, Zayas and a few other helping hands.

Corsell’s primary job with the making of these videos is project manager. She oversees everyone and has the final word on all completed projects — the “big brother” of the group if you will. Corsell describes her project manager position as a “very tedious job.” Zayas’ role is to do the special effects and the graphics for all the videos. While Corsell knows how to use all the tools and programs, she leaves the hard stuff up to her boyfriend.

When asked how many people it takes to make one of these videos a smooth and successful process, Corsell couldn’t come up with a specific number. What Three Studios Multimedia usually does is send out information about the project. Then, they hold a meeting that briefly describes what the project is about and after that anyone is free to sign up and join. As for requirements, Corsell prefers the people who sign up to have “been around the block before.” For example, when it comes to hiring an audio technician, she wants someone who has had experience.

When it comes to musicians, Corsell wants someone who can create their own compositions, especially since most competitions won’t let competitors use other copyrighted music, unless they have proof to the rights to the music. With actors, Corsell and Zayas do a standard casting call. Whoever fits the role the best gets the job.

Now that the studio has won its first commercial competition, Corsell and Zayas are excited about what comes next in their unofficial partnership with Sekwana Comics. Because of the company’s win, Zayas was fortunate enough to have the time to sit down and talk with Sekwana. After meeting, Zayas was able to develop a relationship that the couple hopes will bring in more business for both the studio and Sekwana Comics. Zayas says that was the most rewarding part about the win.

Corsell is content with where her and Zayas’ company is right now. She says she loves her company and loves what she does. Corsell is confident enough to say she knows that she and Zayas are good at what they do.

Plans for the future of their company include another commercial video for Big Ass Fans, which somehow might include a donkey. However, Corsell didn’t want to give too much away.

Corsell believes in Three Studios Multimedia and doesn’t seem intimidated by the future whatsoever. And even though she isn’t expecting it to happen in the foreseeable future, Corsell says she would be happy with making their company grow a bit larger.
