Florida gets wild at night

For those who enjoy the outdoors, but have noticed that the Tampa Bay area is mostly an urban and barren landscape, feel unsatisfied no longer. Boyd Hill Nature Preserve in St. Petersburg has a series called Night Hikes.

This is an event that is open to the public, but the target audience is adults 18 and up.

The event occurs every second Saturday of the month. For the price of $5, Rangers familiarize attendees with the different ecosystems within the park and introduce them to the different types of animals that have made it their home.

Guests can be expected to be captivated by how beautiful the Sunshine State becomes once the sun goes down.

Ranger Andrea Leavitt Anderson described one particular scene from the event, “My favorite part of the Night Hikes are the silhouette of the pine trees against the sky. It’s just breathtaking.”

If once a month is not enough for you, Ranger Andersen explained that they host other types of hikes as well. One is monthly and exclusively for families. Some events are specialty hikes, such as the Music Night Hike.

Ranger Andersen went on to clarify, “we collaborated with Jesse Vance … the founder of the Venture Compound here in town. The Venture Compound is this space that he’s created with experimental musicians and experimental artists. They interpreted each habitat through music.”
