The saying goes that April showers bring May flowers, if you're a college student May finals bring delicious summer freedom unless you decide to take on a summer class or two. Summer for some may mean vacationing, tanning and partying it up at the beach before school kicks in and you're tied down once more.
Many of us may still have that inner child within us who yearns to hear that last school bell ring so that we can sprint home to become nocturnal, enjoying late nights filled with Nickelodeon marathons and then sleeping through the mornings and spending the afternoon in the pool.
Students may quiver at the thought of final exams. It may be the deciding factor on whether students pass or fail. There have been studies that show college students preparing improperly by using drugs to help stay awake or by not studying at all.
There are all sorts of reasons why students miss class. We have jobs whether full-time or part-time, we all have families and some students are even parents. Most importantly, we are human and we do get sick on occasion. Sometimes there is a personal issue going on and we need to take a personal day to fix things.
Whether we want to or not, at some time during our HCC experience we are forced to ease our stomach cravings at our campus cantinas. But is this really a good idea, even if it is a last resort? If you love carbohydrates and big thighs then we presume you see no problem with the school’s offerings.

With football season in full tilt and baseball coming to a close, I thought about how it has become our new national pastime. As soon as preseason football starts, I forget about baseball and can’t wait for the regular season to begin. You may have noticed that football is everywhere.
Each year Americans become increasingly more consumed with technology. From Blackberries to iPods, people feel the need to be connected around the clock. Social networking sites have only added to this infatuation, especially among college students. Facebook and Myspace, which began in the early 2000s, attract hundreds of new members daily.
Stop the presses! Test anxiety sufferers may have a cure. Some students get hit with the dreaded monster, test anxiety, no matter how well they know the material. On test day, especially finals, anxiety attacks its victims like a virus. While some students skate by unharmed, others are hit with a myriad of symptoms.
HCC is a commuter school, and people from all walks of life are bound to attend. As a result we are exposed to fashion on many different levels from the hippest, and chic, to the most daring, wild and crazy. From the latest fashion trends like skinny jeans, fitted t-shirts and gladiator sandals, to questionable fashion decisions like “hoochie-mama” shorts, wearing pajamas to class, and (gasp) high heels on campus.
