Hillsborough Community College is host to many talented and dedicated students who are striving to achieve their dreams. Many fields of study are open to students such as nursing, medical engineering and teaching. Gamalier Calderon is one of the many students here at the HCC, and is chasing his dreams to become a part of the authentic, styling world of fashion.

  Calderon got into fashion around his freshman year of high school and has loved it since. “I was a mess before it all, and fashion was an outlet for my ideas and feelings. I started dressing better, watching fashion shows and learning everything I could.” said Calderon.

  Calderon was inspired to join the fashion industry by many sources. “By following bloggers, watching the late Joan Rivers on the hit television show Fashion Police aired on E!, and I even intern for a loyal stylist, Tamy Lugo, since I’m not at a ‘fashion school’ as of now.”

  The fashion industry is a hectic and intimidating field. It’s a challenge to get into, but is worthwhile in the end. From the outfits, to makeup and even music, according to Calderon, “The fashion Industry is huge! Even just in Tampa, there are plenty of bloggers, designers, stylists, but I’m lucky enough to count on a great support system of family and friends who keep me going forward.”

  Calderon’s first fashion show, which he conducted himself at the Regent campus, one of the many HCC campuses. The outfits came from, and supported, local business right here in Tampa and even the Brandon area such as Secondhand Savvy’s off Kings Avenue.

  Calderon has already named his brand, “House of Gam” which Calderon hopes to one day make known worldwide. “I’m already planning the next show, so stay tuned! I want to make the House of Gam a brand, a name that people know. I know it’s going to take a lot of work but I’m ready for the challenge. I’m working on getting all the pre- requisites and transfer to a ‘fashion school’ maybe Fashion Institute of Technology and Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. As for The House of Gam, we are always doing photo shoots and putting outfits together!”
