  We are Here for you, LGBT Community.

  At the Plant City campuss, a number of students made it their goal to open up the small percent of the LGBT community.

  We created a Safe Space training manual to help students to identify educate and support Allies. The vision of the Safe Space Ally Program is to foster an atmosphere of support and celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and Questioning individuals within the HCC community. We have planned a four day event in hopes to bring a little more awareness to the community.

  Day 1 is Monday, Oct. 19. It is T-shirt Creation Day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and will be heled outside the Hawk’s Nest. This will give students a chance to take a free T-shirt provided by Student Government Association and use any or all of the rainbow colors and more to decorate whatever they want to help support the community.

  Day 2 is Tuesday, Oct. 20 and is LGBT Safe Space Training. It will be helpd from 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. inside the Hawk’s Nest. This training is to help students in their understanding of themselves as well as coming out. There will also be a Blood Drive Bus present outside the Hawk’s Nest from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

  Day 3 is Wednesday, Oct. 21. It is Movie Day! It will be held from 8 a.m. -7 p.m. inside the Hawk’s Nest. A whole day dedicated to playing movies that are associated with LGBT such as Gayby, GirlTrash: All Night Long, Bloomington, and RENT. And again, there will be a Blood Drive Bus present outside the Hawk’s Nest from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

  Day 4 is Thursday, Oct. 22 and is Advocates for Equality. It will be held2 p.m.-3 p.m. inside the Hawk’s Nest.

  Plant City will be provide Guest Speaker Joel to speak on behalf of the LGBT community and many topics related. Joel spent seven years as a facilitator and program designer with Disney Institute at Walt Disney World. With a keen awareness of the adult education experience, he keeps things interactive and relevant. Joel creates an energetic, casual space filled with laughter and emotion. Joel’s passion for equality led him to be instrumental in the founding of Orlando Gay Chorus, the early Gay Days at Disney, the first Orlando Pride Parade, as well as other events. With his uplifting, positive spirit, Joel inspires others to discover their potential as an advocate for equality.

  Shortly after the speaker will be a “Dark Room Session.” A Dark Room Session is a private and judgment-free event where students can feel free to address concerns and ask questions without being afraid to do so. It will be from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. inside the Hawk’s Nest.
