Don't try to use your old student IDs; they won't work.
Starting now, students, faculty and staff are required to have a Hawk Card, which will be required for practically everything. The Hawk Card will act as a library card, ID, printing card and even prepaid credit card.
Eventually, Ybor students will use it for the parking garage. Students living in Hawks Landing will need the new card to get into the security gate, town hall and the parking areas. All students will have the option to put money on the card, which can be loaded online, at the bursar's office, and through a toll free number provided on the back of the card. If money is put on the card, it can be used to receive discounts at 40 different merchants, as well as, 5 percent off Sodexo-operated food locations on campus, and 5 percent discount on all HCC logo items at the bookstore.
In order to receive these benefits, students will have to have an activated card and enough funds on the card to cover the entire bill at participating merchants; students will not be allowed to use the card to partially pay the bill. Activation packets are provided when students receive their cards. The card does not have to be activated if it is being used only as an ID and/or library card. Barbara DeVries, HCC Director of Financial Resources, recommends that students get the card activated even if money is never put on it; there is no fee to get it activated, nor is there any fee if money is never put on an activated card. "It provides connivance and safety for students who don't want to carry cash," said DeVries. There are only two school fees for the card: If it is lost, there is a $20 replacement cost; if money is on the card and the card is not used to purchase something within a year, there will be a $4 monthly fee.
DeVries said that students should notify public safety immediately in the event that the card is lost. She also recommends students get a new card immediately. There will be card makers at every campus in the book store, with the exception of South Shore. That campus's card marker will be in the library, so cards will be available immediately.
Coming Soon! Summer 2010 copy machines and printers in all open labs and libraries will cost .10 per page, and cash will not be accepted. Only your Hawk Card will be able to be used. The card will also be able to be used at on-campus vending machines and at any ATM machine, although bank fees will apply unless the machine is a Pulse ATM. One thing the card won't do is replace the Higher One Card, so refunds will not be loaded on to the Hawk Card
Once your campus has been issued the Hawk Cards, your old IDs will no longer work as your library card or ID. Every student needs to obtain a Hawk Card.
BE THERE! When will the Hawk Card crew be at your campus:
Plant City: Monday through Wednesday, March 1 -3.
South Shore: Thursday, Monday, and Tuesday, March 4,8 and 9.
As for all other campuses, sorry the crew was already there! But if you missed them, don't fear: just go to your book store for your new card.
