Say goodbye to white paper hangtags, new static decals are just one of the few parking changes.

You’re already late for class and traffic is bumper to bumper. You get a break from the commotion, a stretch of open roadway, and whoosh out goes your white paper hangtag; you are now in parking purgatory.

For Ybor campus commuters, this scenario is all too familiar. Whether people are  tired of losing their hangtag, or looping around countless times in a surface parking lot trying to find a spot, you can expect some new changes in parking next semester.
In the spring, Ybor students will no longer need to hassle with paper parking passes or wait in long lines to receive a parking decal.
According to Dr. Shawn Robinson, Ybor campus president, students will now be issued a static parking decal to replace the paper ones. A printable online application will also be put into effect to help cut down the time it takes to get one.
“We think this will cut down on the number of replacements for hangtags,” said Robinson. “The whole process should take no more than 10 seconds.”
Student Joshua Rondon, 22, Ybor, thinks the new decal is a smart move.
“I take my hangtag down when I’m not at school because it’s so big and white, that it reflects off my mirror,” said Rondon.
All Students will now be directed to park in the Fernando Noriega Jr. garage, freeing up surface parking spots for full-time employees and individuals with disabilities. Having every student park in a designated area makes it easier for security to keep an eye on the students, said Robinson
Kate Liggett, 18, Ybor, doesn’t seem to mind the parking changes at all.
“I don’t think it will be a big deal, it’s pretty cool we have a parking garage that large, and that close to campus,” said Liggett.
