46 Million strong

46+Million+strong

My intention in this article is not to convince you to vote for either republican or democrat; Or is it to denounce the government. My sole purpose of this article is to influence and inspire my peers into exercising their constitutional right to vote.

In the 2008 election, youth voters showed a high voter turnout, and held a high margin of the vote in the election. Ultimately youth voters helped determined who would win the election. In a study done by Ramussen College about 16 million youth voters in college were eligible to vote in the 2008 election, and eighty-seven percent of them actually voted. The 2008 election really cast a spotlight on the youth of America, and the impact in which can be made by young voters participation.

This year it was reported that about 46 million youth voters are eligible to vote, as opposed to the 29 million in 2008, these new 17 million voters can be the true deciding factor of this election. Youth voters make up about twenty-one percent of all eligible voters, and need to acknowledge how much that is.

I have come across many of my peers who I have discussed this year’s election; many of which state they are not interested in politics or voting at all for the matter. In efforts to convince them otherwise, ive come to recognize the ignorance of the uninformed. Many youth voters feel a sense of powerlessness when it comes to government; they feel as if their one vote has no influence over the election. What they don’t realize is if every person who thought this way would participate in the election, the results could truly express the desires of the American public. The American youth need to understand even if they may not be concerned with the election; the results will directly affect their lives.

Youth voters were an important demographic in the 2008 election, and are not expected to have a great influence in this election. However, I believe it is our duty as the future of America to construct our government. We are 46 million strong, and we can make a difference.
