SGA: The student voice of HCC

The Hillsborough Community College Student Government Association exists to serve as “the medium through which students can actively participate in the programs and policymaking procedures of the College.

The Student Government Association also promotes student participation in student clubs and organizations as well as in student government.” The organization thrives under the voluntary leadership of student senators.

Senators have an active policy-making schedule as well as their require class schedules. On the Ybor campus, senator meetings are on Mondays at 2 p.m., followed by general meetings at 3 p.m.

General meetings allows members of the Student Government Association the opportunity to discuss issues relating to school budgets and events with clubs, faculty, advisers and college employees. They also discuss fund requests, which are often in relations to the money for the food or service that will be provided at these specific school events, as well as money for schoolassociated events and trips.

Senator Leneva Day shared that the “association serves as a decision body and a voice for the school” and a “voice for the students.” She added, the Student Government Association trains you on how to be a leader and teaches people how to not hold biased views on certain topics not just relating to the school, but in general as well.

She added it is place to work with people who emit “no bad vibes” and “no bad attitudes,” and that the organization is a cooperative voice for all students.
