New Tampa Players, a group of talented people trying to establish a community theatre presence, will be preforming “She loves me” on November 8–10 and 15-17. The musical, directed by Clayton Mckendree, was originally the inspiration of the hit film “You’ve Got Mail”.

In the New Tampa Players version of this well-loved musical, Dr. Scott Behrens, the Brandon Campus Dean of Associate in Arts, will play the leading man.

The well-loved musical showcases Behrens and his wife, Susan, as the lead characters George and Amalia. The newest Dean of Associate Arts at Brandon campus seems to be well rounded. He and his wife of five years met via the same love of theater. They were cast together in “Carousel” and “It’s a Wonderful Life”.

Behrens, a Florida Gator, studied psychology and received his Ph.D. in educational psychology. Believing that he would miss out on the teaching experience he loved so much, he was reluctant to join the administration at Adrian College.

Through his journey, he says that he enjoys administration because he is still teaching and making an impact on student life.

Although Behrens means business, he also likes to have a good time. He enjoys spending his time off with his three step-sons and 22-month old daughter. The New Jersey native enjoys theater, music, and family.

“Earning a college degree is not easy. If it were, everyone would have one. However, most people are capable of earning a degree, even though some people have more obstacles than others. My advice to students is simple: Be persistent, work hard, find joy in learning and when you have obstacles talk to your professors. Your professors and administrators want you to succeed. Your professors and administrators define their success by their student’s success,” says Behrens. He is a good example of someone following his dream.
